Why French fries was called 'french fries' Why not American fries?

I'm wondering! When frozen fries manufactured in America for creating french fries at McDonald's.

    The French cut the potatoes in the iconic shape. French fries did not originate in America.

    Americans soldier 1st discovered "french fries" in French city😲then named it french fries! 😲 sadly the credits was all to french now🤨
