Would you name your child after a sports star?

I just seen that the 5th most popular boys name in the UK in 2019 was Muhammad.

I had no idea Muhammad Ali was still so popular especially in Britain.

No, countries moved Muslim immigrants into their nations, and that is why the name is popular in those countries, because a lot of followers of Muhammad's teachings, name their kids after him... though they can't even draw a stick figure of him, as that is haram. Many do not realize that they have exchanged God for Muhammad, when they chose the teachings of Muhammad over God's words.

No, I don't think that any child should be named after anyone else at all. Give it the same name that 'someone else' already has, yes (otherwise we run out of names) but let the reason for the name be because you think the name is nice and suitable.  Everyone has the right to their own name and not always meant to feel "I got that name because Uncle this and Grandad that and cousin so and so all have it and we must keep it in the family." It's far better to be individual than be almost a clone of someone else.

Muhammad is the most popular name in the world. It has been long before Muhammad Ali (that’s not the name he was given at birth). Muhammad Ali had nothing to do with the popularity of the name.

The name Mohammed being popular will have nothing to do with Mohammed Ali, it's just a typical Muslim name.

Cassius Clay  became a Muslim, and  took the name of Mohammed, who is the founder of Islam (Followers are called Muslims.) Ali is also a common Islamic name. Lots of people who are not Muslims know that.
