What do jazz fans think of Rap music?

Rap is an evolution of jazz. Where one draws the line between jazz and its descendants is quite arbitrary. Where one draws the line between music and non-music is also arbitrary, music being a subjective experience.
Anyway I like rap when it's the most creative, as many jazz enthusiasts I suppose I dislike most of the mainstream rap but some old and/or underground acts are quite impressive, expressive, relevant and enjoyable. As in all genres there are innovators and trend followers and not both categories stand the test of time equally.

As a "Jazz fan" I can appreciate Rap music and Hip-Hop since they originate from jazz and funk music and often take samples from the jazz music I like to listen to. Many of my friends who enjoy jazz also enjoy hip-hop and rap.

What difference does it make. Rap is not music. Why don't you contact someJazz fans and ask them?

Honestly, I don't even consider rap music in first place.

The genres aren't mutually exclusive. I've got plenty of more modern jazz albums with at least one track featuring a rap performance.
I hold rap in higher esteem than I do "smooth jazz"
