Because the majority of voters are old and won't vote for younger people. If you want younger candidates, young people need to stop being lazy and start voting in huge numbers.

Because it's a demanding job, and you can forget about a decent career afterwards.
The law says they must be at least 35

The age of candidates is incidental. Neither party intentionally seeks older candidates unless there would be some strategic value in it.
