Does anyone know how to get from LA to San Francisco for cheap?

Question

I am aware that I can take the Amtrak there but Amtrak is too expensive, so I want another approach to get from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Just like I can go to San Diego by taking the Metrolink to Oceanside (10$) and then purchasing a (NCTD) Coaster (15$)  pass to ride the Amtrak, instead of pay (31$) one way, a total of $62, does anyone know a way to travel to San Francisco and save that extra money?
