How are people still getting Covid?

Everybody knows how serious it is and literally all you have to do to not get it is avoid people.

Update:

SiameseCatMom: You're very unlikely to catch Covid from a biweekly grocery trip to a store which requires masks.  There must be at least one grocery store in your area which does so.

Because a significant amount of people are neither wearing masks nor "social distancing".

well I work a COVID call center and the rate of infection is greater than about 12%. Many positives that I call (because I have to fill out the public health report) have NO idea where they were infected, even some who say they dont go out. So somewhere they are infected, whether its from an asymptomatic spreader, or a brief trip out to a store, etc  We have no way of knowing, but the fact is, it is spreading.

Everyone in theory is aware of how bad the Covid19 virus is,but they think they are invisible so they seem to try and think they will never catch.A few simple common sense actions can reduce the possibility of catching this horrendous disease,in the US and please not i am not insinuating anything here but the spread of the disease is just totally out of control and i cannot see anything really being done to address the situation till the new incoming president comes into office.

One thing is vitally important is to use a face mask, use sanitizer and keep washing your hands on a regular basis, you can of course buy facemasks and other protective equipment from say Ebay and Amazon, these are 2 sites that i highly recommend one is US based http://www.ppedynamic.com/ and also the UK PPE supplier http://www.ppedynamic.co.uk/ both provide amazing product quality at the loest possible prices.

In the UK it appears that they seem to be getting slightly on top of the Covid19 virus spread after they have introduced stricter control, although this seems to limit folks activities at least its not expanding the spread of the disease. In the US it is alas another story and the daily death rates from Covid19 are rising and showing no signs of slowing down.

I urge you all to please stay safe and well and use some sort of PPE Personal Protective Equipment.

You are assuming that people have brains and know how to use them.  Look at the morons in my town

Not everyone has the ability to avoid people and for some reason they don't get that they can "up" the mask game (KN95, 2 masks, or mask & face shield).

Siamese Cat Mom - if you are a nurse and "saw" a lot people who social distanced and wore masks on short grocery store trips = you have a lot of big liars.

= you get covid from close contacts = not random strangers who you have brief interactions with.

    1. you need to work, which may involve being around people, 2. you need to get groceries. 3. you need a doctors visit/ER. You CAN'T always avoid people, can you? Edit: as a nurse, I saw many cases where people only go out once a month for groceries and caught covid! It is unlikely, but not a guarantee you won't catch it! And yes our stores say mask required, but I see many people not wearing them still, even IN the store. And some people can't due to health issues! Are you in the medical field dealing with this and seeing and hearing stories of how people caught this virus? If not, shut the hell up!

You mean like all you've gotta do to avoid lung cancer is not smoke cigarettes?  Or all you've gotta do to avoid being obese is to not eat so much?  All you've gotta do to avoid strife is to observe the Golden Rule?

Clearly, for humans (and Americans in particular) KNOWING what's good for you doesn't mean you're gonna do it.
