Do you know what its purpose is what it does? Why do you want to remove it? Its only the air we all breath.

Physically removing it is DIRT CHEAP.

It is also ILLEGAL everywhere cars have them.

Voiding the warranty is the LAST thing to worry about.

Considering they are required on vehicles, it would cost a lot if you are caught without one.

It will cost you a lot if the Authorities find out as it is illegal to run the engine without it and yes could void your warranty.

The questions you didn't ask...is it LEGAL? NO.

That is why they are welded on.  The person would have to steal the car and then put it up on a hoist and take a cutting torch to cut it off.

// 2. will you pass emissions testing? NO. You will be forced to put the cat back on and go back to the emission's testing place so that they can confirm that and allow that vehicle to be licensed for use on the public roads.  Otherwise you built yourself a BUSH BUGGY-or FARM FIELD CAR or Driveway dragster.

    .Cost for a new converter...close to $2000.39 w/o labor.

Will the car go better without the converter? Not necessarily. It will make more noise. Noise belonging to BEATER CARS (and those are legal because they never came with a  CC so do not need to add one. (Grandfather clause)

A smart thing to do? Wiping you butt was smart.  Removing a CC is NOT.

. Now to answer your question --how much does it cost to remove?=how much money do you have?  They will take it all and more if they can, because they are not real mechanics. Just Earl and JoJo who need BEER MONEY.

You asked 3 questions, I'll answer one at a time:

How much does it cost to remove catalytic converter? - probably at least $500 and up to $2000. The actual act of removing the CC only takes a few minutes but legitimate shops will ONLY perform this work when packaged with the installation of a new CC of adequate size. The labor is only 1-2 hours but the cost of the new Cat is usually $500 to $1500 for most modern cars.

Can I cut it myself with a saw? - In theory a skilled mechanic could use a hack saw to remove it but since its secured with just some bolts and clamps no competent person would attempt this. Based on the stupidity of your question, I honestly doubt that YOU are capable of handling any tool with sharp edges without hurting yourself.

And does it void warranty? No, not at all, I'm sure the manufacturer will happily pay to repair your car after you commit a serious crime by using rudimentary tools to cut critical components out of the vehicle. In fact, while you're under the car misusing sharp objects do us all a favor and poke a hole in the oil reservoir, this will help ensure we don't have to deal with your stupidity on the highway. Don't worry - that's covered under warranty also.

It is illegal to remove the catalytic converter, so you will not find a shop that will remove it or put a pipe in its place.

It voids the warranty on the vehicle and also will prevent you from passing emission testing to renew the license plates. There is also a hefty fine for removing it.

you think that's what mechanics do... you think mechanics just cut it off with a saw and weld a new one in... no, they just unbolt it.

yes it voids the warranty and it's illegal in most areas.
