The only way it would work is we do not let some people become super billionaires.   But as long as they make big campaign donations and keep the politicians bought,  it ain't gonna happen.

Yes it can.  If its regulated well enough.  We've been dong it on a smaller scales for decades.  Its called Welfare.

Your taxes would skyrocket.  No one would seek to better themselves financially since any improvements there would result in a bigger chunk taken away by the government.

Home and car ownership would drop like a stone.

Wait times for specialty health care would increase while the value of the care received would decrease.

Well,  the poverty/trap aka welfare-cliffs would be gone; the unemployed could accept part-time jobs without being financially punished.

Also, employers would have to treat their personnel well, to prevent them from quitting.

A lot of people would reduce their working overtime, freeing up jobs for others.

Most people would keep working for the luxuries in life

It depends on how long the people who pay taxes are willing to keep working themselves and paying the taxes to hand out ot the lazy ones, who would rather have a little pittance and eke y, rather than get up off their fat butts and go to work for themselves.

when you have no one motivated enough to work and to create new and better products, very quickly the whole society devolves into a big messy mistake.  I saw USSR, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia.  After that, I vowed I would fight with all my might to keep that from ever happening HERE in the US.

Those places have worked hard to get out form the failed experiment, but Venezuela and Cuba are still suffering.  You could go there and see what it is like.
