What's the name of this illustrated book from the early '80s...?

I believe it was published around '81 or '82. It was an illustrated book about what appeared to be vikings, or Norse-like warriors. The panels were bordered with intricate Celtic designs. I believe the artist was actually of some renown, and the illustrations were like high-end comic book art.

I remember the cover had a helmeted warrior with long red hair, holding a sword overhead. I think it was called "The Book of" something, but I can't remember the last word. I thought it was "Stories" or "Legends," but multiple google searches have proven useless.

As a kid in the late 70s and early 80s I was heavily into drawing. My mom had this book, which I wasn't supposed to read because it featured nudity, but I was fascinated by the bold, colorful artwork and the images of heavily muscled warriors and scantily clad women. I actually have no idea what the story was about, I was just taken by the artwork. I would spend hours tracing images from it on typing paper using a light-up drawing board. I'd love to find this book again.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Update:

@ Voelven -II'm familiar with Vallejo and Frazetta's work. It's neither of them. Thanks for trying, though. :)

Update 2:

Found it! It's called "The Book of Conquests," originally published in 1978.

I'm no familiar with the book you describe, but the artwork and time frame sounds reminiscent of Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo, maybe this helps?
