Is he a true vegan?

There's this dude I know who practically (no offence) doesn't eat! He says he is proud to be a vegan and thoroughly checks everything to make sure it's of valid quality. He talks about how well it's helped with animals and posts it a lot online but not so much in person. If he doesn't know, he'll just refuse to eat it. He claims he's not much of a food person and that being a vegan has made him a better person. I never see him eat and he's very tall but very skinny. Do true vegans just eat very little or is he a sub-type of vegan? I'm not vegan so I dunno.

There is no such thing as a true vegan as you don't get your membership revoked if you do something different than another "vegan". Some vegans will not eat almonds (for example) because they exploit bees in the process of growing them in many places.

But generally no, vegans eat a normal amount Some eat less than others and some eat more.

Just remember that vegan doesn't mean healthy. Oreos are vegan, but I don't know anyone who thinks that Oreos are healthy.

Your friend sounds like the type of vegan that gives most vegans a bad reputation for being annoying.

If he says he is vegan there really is no reason to doubt him, but there are people who just do not derive any pleasure from eating ANYTHING, much less any specific type of food, and he might be that kind of person.

If that's a true story, it sounds like an attempt to go "breatharian". Let's call it what it is: starvation. Someone like that is nuts, and should be put on suicide watch in a mental institution.

A vegan is a strict vegetarian who only eats fruits and vegetables - unless they eat processed vegan imitation foods. Someone who doesn't eat anything at all is not even a vegan. They are starving themselves, and they're going to die. If the individual in question is only pretending to never eat, but eats food in secret when no one is looking, then he's a liar.

Per Wiki "Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals." How much one eats has nothing to do with being vegan, vegetarian, fruitarian, or a meat-eater. He's simply a person who doesn't eat a lot, who also happens to be vegan.
