Does taking music lessons kill musical creativity?

Yes, just the way learning to read and write kills your novel-writing creativity.

No.  Having an understanding of how music works and how to play an instrument does not kill creativity.  It gives you the tools you need to take your creative ideas and produce them.  That would be like asking if learning how to type kill your creativity as a writer, or learning how to draw kills your creativity as an artiest.  Your imagination gives you the music.  The lesson give you the tools to put those ideas down on paper or tape.

Stupid conclusion.  If you want to be musically creative, you take piano lessons and learn the structure of music.  Why is that not 100% obvious?

Do drawing classes ruin an artist?

of course not.

It depends. 

If you're a true and deserving musician, you'll appreciate and accept the basic concepts of music to grow your talent. If you're s poser who's in a lot of hurry with complete disregard of the foundations of the craft then they'll have to survive with their own wits.

Not at all.   Messiness is not the same thing as creativity.  Just because something “breaks the rules” doesn’t mean it’s creative either.  

With no training or guidance, it takes much longer to create something that is actually unique and is good.  Without lessons, a person is basically learning as they go making mistake after mistake and they may not even understand why something isn’t working.  Without recognizing what came before, they may copy something thinking it’s their own or end up being a derivative of something that exists - which is not being that creative.

Training can impel us to see things differently which can expand our creativity.  It gives us the understanding to examine things from different angles and come up with something creatively unique.

And while it may seem counterintuitive to some people, studies show that limitations and constraints actually make us more creative!

Yes, as with writing,  the establishment wants you to conform to their format which is why creative writing so poor these days.

No - in fact, it's the opposite.

To improve at ANYTHING you need to learn as much as possible about that subject.  That will increase your ability to be creative!

Not at all - you can't write creatively until you learn the basics of a language. it gives you the technical ability to be able to create.
