How many hours does it take children to make each ½ hour episode of Odd Squad?

I'm including getting into costumes, makeup (if there is makeup), down time while the crew sets up lighting and cameras for the next scene, memorizing lines, and  whatever else is involved

on the children's part in making the show?

Katrina, you wrote that thousands of children submit audition tapes, and half the tapes are ignored because they are inappropriate. That does means that about 2,000 children submit tapes or it is likely to be even more than 2,000. I realize that you have to base your answer on your own experience in TV production.  Thank you. 🎥🎤

How many hours it takes depends on the role the child has.  If they’re only in one 5-minute scene it could only a few hours.  Longer if they’re in multiple scenes.  Not sure about this particular show, but typically it takes 5 days to shoot a half-hour episode.

Plus there are laws about how long children can be on set.  Since Odd Squad is filmed in Canada, I don’t know what the labor laws are.  Even in the US the laws can vary by state and depends on the age of the child.  But as an example, it’s common that children between the ages of 9 and 15 can only be on set at most 8 hours a day but they can only work five of those hours.  The remaining hours must be spent resting, having meals and getting their education.

About tape submissions - given that the pandemic has put a lot of acting careers on hold and a lot of people with time on their hands.  I wouldn’t be surprised if there are far more then 2,000 submission.  Maybe there will be 2,000 submissions by agents for children they represent and then another few thousands from wannabe actor kids with parents helping them make a self submission tape.  But that is a complete guess.

The thing is, the acting industry is extremely inconsistent and varies a lot.  Understanding the different variable involved may help you get a very general idea (which I’m trying to give you).  But honestly it’s anyone’s guess as to the answer to your questions.
