What holiday destination surpassed your expectation?

Where have you been on holiday where you actually liked it more than you thought you would and why?

Update:

To the anonymous person I can't see that post in the questions I've answered anymore. So I'm guessing you managed to delete it

The Marakska Riviera down to Dubrovnik in Croatia.  My ex wanted to go so we went.  The views, the people, the history and all dirt cheap!

    Gettysburg, PA

    Niagara Falls, Canada

I wouldn't say I was blown away by either, but I expected to be underwhelmed by both.  I was pleasantly surprised by both locations.
