Why are Republicans so reluctant to going against Trump?

If you were selected to be a juror on a case and the entire time while the evidence was being presented you were reading a magazine, scribbling doodles on a piece of paper, sleeping, or talking to other jurors the judge would probably hold you in contempt or even dismiss you from the trial.  However, this is the very thing the republicans are doing during the impeachment trial for Trump.  Their minds are already made up that Trump was not responsible for anything that happened at the Capital on Jan 6th so they aren't even paying attention.  I think I heard that some even got up and walked out.  Are they that concerned about their political futures until they don't want to upset the base and those Trump Republicans?  The evidence if overwhelming but they refuse to look at it.  They've already made up in their minds they are going to acquit.  Why?

Because they want his supporters to vote for them.

Are you sure they are not going after Trump or do they just believe in the Constitution?

The Republicans doing that still think that Trump is their ticket to the future and their personal future is all they care about. What they're going to find is that he's the dead end that will kill their careers. It's out this morning that true Republicans, i.e., Republicans who aren't actually right-wing radical authoritarians like the rabble in the Senate, are planning on forming their own party. Those people will garner all the big donations from the business community and wealthy individuals because neither business nor people of wealth see any stable money-making prospects for themselves in an authoritarian state run by an erratic person like Trump. In short, Trumpism will die a slow death and be toxic to their dreams of power for the people who support it.

Very simple - they choose party of country.

Trump has a cult-like base of followers who will turn on Republicans who don’t support Trump.  These followers have infiltrated top levels of local GOP organizations.  So many Republicans lack the ethical strength to stand up to Trump and his followers.  They feel they can walk some line to appease them.

Who’s really good at holding a grudge? History is. Every Republican who votes to acquit Trump has sealed their historic footnote.

Oh, I don’t know. According to at least one credible news source, Senator Rand Paul made a really nice traced doodle of the Capitol. I wonder if he added hillbillies smashing in the windows.

It’s because he will say they are the ones who ordered the attack on Capitol Hill. That is what he does.

When you attack Americans for supporting their president you can’t expect them to vote for you!
