Why does early morning stretching feel so good?  What is going on physiologically?

    Stretching muscles,  ligaments and tendons.   Doing so prevents injury from sudden movement, so you are lucky it feels good because that motivates you to do it. 

    Me; I just start lifting weights,  but never all of a sudden.   I do stretch when using certain machines.
