just to name a few was it due to current events like the vienam war and iranian hostage crisis

    Mostly the Iranian hostage crisis, that really personally affected a lot of rockstars...

    There were happy songs too. Most Frank Zappa songs were fairly happy.

    Disco Inferno was a happy song, I think... and I'm sure there were some happy Led Zeppelin songs.

    OK, I admit, there were a lot of downer songs in the late 60s and 70s. They were possibly bummed that the hippy peace love revolution wasn't all that they imagined.
