Atlanta, like Seattle has nice safe areas and not so nice areas.  Like Seattle, learn which areas to avoid and you should be just as safe in Atlanta as you are in Seattle.  The major difference for you is that Atlanta is a "southern city", which is different culturally from Seattle.  The summers in Atlanta are hot and humid, hence the nickname Hotlanta.  The good news is the cost of living in Atlanta should be lower if not a lot lower than Seattle, so your standard of living would improve even if you're making the same salary.

Both Seattle and Atlanta are above the national average in crime rare. Atlanta is higher than Seattle but that doen't mean that you will be a victim if yoiu live there. It depends on your life style qand where you live/work. There are safer and less safe areas in any city See:

I visited it a few times for the comic con. I had no trouble.
