Perhaps girls just like being accepted irrelevant of their chosen dress sense or hobbies / interests, rather than being labelled a 'tomboy' as if wearing trousers and climbing trees is a male-specific activity.

We humans are subjected to gender norms all our lives. Some people choose to not be pushed into an extreme and simply chose what is comfortable for them. I don't see them as tomboys for that.
