Is it true that sales representatives can lose their jobs if they don't sell or is this a lie?

In most industries, sales reps are paid a small salary plus commission. If they do not sell, they do not get the commission. Because the base salary for sales people is minimum wage, not selling anything is career ending because you do not get raises, you get commissions and they build up as you sty there and sell.
SO- like at a car dealer, or a furniture store, or an insurance company...if you are not selling...what is the point of struggling at a minimum wage job?
(And...from personal experience...if you haven't sold anything after 6 weeks...and you see people getting great pay and you are struggling then you tend to give up and leave because you feel bad next to all these people who seem to be able to sell $1,000 worth of stuff to someone who was 'just looking'.)
Other sales jobs...like regular retail...just pay minimum wage with occasional raises, because the merchandise is not high end and you will have to do other things like stock shelves and clean up after customers.
So...you can work at Staples, Home Depot or Macy's and not 'SELL' a thing but still keep your job...but at a furniture store, car dealer or high end fashion and decor, if you do not actually make enough sales to get a commission...you will be asked if you would rather leave the company. They will not fire you...but they will make it very plain that they do not expect you to want to continue working there.

No. They keep their jobs forever even if they never sell anything.
Are you trying to be stupid?

Of course they can lose their jobs if they don't accomplish the one thing they are there to do...
