I guess I am a woman of many colors.. my face is light brown when I wear makeup, my arms are brown due to the sun.  My legs are pasty white because I wear pants.  My a$$ is red because I am sitting on it.  And my toes are blue .. because I am sitting on my red a$$.

Why are black people called black when most are a sort of dark brown?

The racial classification system is a bit arbitrary.  "White" and "black" are easy to remember and easy to say basic colors, and the system seems neater if you match your races up with a continent and a color.  I really think "Hispanic" and "Latino" exist as categories because people wanted a racial category to go with the continent of South America.  People used to refer to Indians as Red Skins and Asians as yellow even though Indians aren't really red and Asians aren't remotely yellow.

It's just shorthand for "pale-skinned", as "black" is shorthand for "dark-skinned".

Actually "beige" would be fantastic. My own skin is a kind of pale greyish pink. I'd much rather be beige.

most are beige, and many are pale white, and most are sun tan white. I would say they had so many variations of light contours that they stuck with just white.

We appear to be white, beige, tan, ecru.  However, if you ever saw a white person who lost all of his blood, you would see white the color of pig fat.

I'm white, so pale people call me Casper. People come in all different shades but I've never seen a beige white person.

White comes in various colors of white.  Very fair, fair, as deep as olive skin.  It's ALL white.  And, for the same reason that blacks are more often brown than charcoal.
