What does it mean, "man is made in the image of God"?

The Bible indicates that humans alone were created in God’s image and likeness. What does that mean?
It means that humankind was given characteristics and qualities that mirrored God’s own, such as love and a sense of justice.
In addition, humans were endowed with thinking and reasoning abilities, coupled with moral and spiritual capacities. That is why we can appreciate the grandeur of the universe and the wonders of nature, as well as art, music, and poetry.
Above all, mankind has the unique capacity to worship the Creator. Such attributes put an immeasurable gulf between humans and all other living creatures on earth.
Animals are governed by instinct. But humans were actually created to be guided by principles. How can you be sure of that?
The Creator is a spirit; he does not have a physical body as we do, so we are in his “image” in that we can reflect his personality, displaying a measure of his fine qualities.
Humans have the capacity to chart their lives according to principles, that is, according to what they believe to be a code of right action.

The Hebrew word is tselem meaning a representative figure. It has nothing to do with physical appearance. He made Adam a spirit with the intention of him to represent God.
But Adam didnt.

Yes, that's exactly what it means. Of course where there is male, there is female. Notice that God created Adam specifically in his own image and likeness, just as Seth grew up in the image and likeness of Adam. Seth looked just like Adam; Adam looked just like God.

"God is spirit", John 4:24. Therefore man was created in the spiritual image of God.

No! We look like Spirit (Romans 8:9) to other believers (I Corinthians 2:14) since GOD is Spirit (John 4:24)!
"Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we Him no more" (II Corinthians 5:16).
