I do, i'm 74 and have arthritis in every inch of my body. OTC don't touch it so i take a RX. Only 2 a day and i can only get small amounts at a time so there's no danger of addiction. Of course at my age no one would really care.  Lol

Stronger opioids are normally used to treat severe pain - for example, cancer-related pain, pain after an operation, or if you have had a serious injury. Anti-inflammatory medicines used as a cream (topical painkillers) are mainly used to treat pain in your soft tissues and muscles.

I take 2 Ibuprofen every 4 hours for nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy).  I have a severe allergic reaction to any opioids (real or synthetic) and will go into anaphylaxis, and I have a severely damaged liver that rules out Tylenol (paracetamol) so I am screwed.

If you're still taking pain killers for an injury from a "long time ago", then you might consider the fact that you could be an addict.
