Will someone please explain the tv sitcom "How I met your mother"?

It's about a guy named Ted who looks for his future wife, while his future self narrates the show.

A dad telling his 2 kids the stories of his 20s & early 30s living in new York with his friends & ultimately how he met (& fell in love) with their mother

There's nothing to explain.  The premise is just a mild organizing principle that plays little to no role in the sitcom until the very last season...and then they do a very uninspired twist with it that will bore you.

You'll find that with very few exceptions, all sitcoms are basically the same.  Sure, the exact setup and cast is different, but the basic set of jokes and improbably situations and misunderstandings are recycled ad infinitum.
