The equation for the combustion of CH4 (the main component of natural gas) is

CH4(g)+2O2(g)→CO2(g)+2H2O(g) ,ΔH∘rxn=−802.3kJ

    From the given equation,

    1 mol of Methane releases 802.3 kJ of heat

    (or) 16 g. of Methane releases 802.3 kJ of heat

    Then, 288 g. of Methane releases ( 288 x 802.3 ) / 16 = 14441.4 kJ of heat
