    Maybe you just shouldn't drink.

Irish whisky tastes like whiskey. Unless you are used to the tastes of various whiskies you wouldn't know the difference.

Seriously. It's nothing special. American whisky tends to be heavy on the corn. Scotch is malted barley. Irish is mostly barley but without the peat that scotch often has. I heard stories that it was often unmalted to avoid taxes, but I take that with a grain of salt. Jack Daniel is A Big Deal not because it's all that good, but because of the marketing. Ditto Irish. It's no big deal. Get yourself a sweet liqueur and be happy.

You likely think of whiskey as Jack Daniels. Jack, in particular is super viscous and watery IMO. It's like someone put charcoal in wood and watered that down. Bourbons like Jim Beam are lighter and sweeter, more like an Irish one. I find Irish tend to be slightly thick and syrupy in a good way. Kinda what you would think Alice in Wonderland potions taste like. Almost candy-like but still open and woody to be sophisticated and not maudlin.
