Will walthers locomotives work with athearn ones?
asking for a frend that wants a Walthers HO Scale loco but only had Athearn ones at present

They will run on the same track, how ever they might run at different speeds on the same setting. But if the unit is unpowered or pulling a different train (different block) it will be just fine. Command control makes it easier to control each locomotive with fewer wires. So if the unit is equipped with a receiver, it will be easier. That is provided he has command control.
Command Control is a system that allows control of several locomotives with only one power supply. These have been affordable for several decades now and most new units either come with it installed or have an easy way to install the receiver.
