    @Adam

    Also, maybe I would say Ghana over Morocco since they made the semi finals of the 1996 afcon and had talents like Pele, Kuffor, Yeboah etc whereas Morocco didn't even qualify.

    I'll break this down by confederation

    From Asia, the right 3 teams qualified (Japan, Saudi and South Korea)

    From Africa, considering the groups, Nigera were expected, Tunisia qualifying ahead of egypt was a surprise, South Africa, Cameroon and Morocco considering their groups were expected.

    North America, I'd say possibly you would have expected Costa Rica ahead of Jamaica however based off that years Gold Cup, Jamaica had a cracking tournament so not much of a surprise.

    South America. Brazil qualified automatically. Argentina were expected. Paraguay were fairly strong so expected, as were colombia.

    Uruguay not qualifying and Chile qualifying was a surprise. Chile had 2 disastrous copa america's but nicked the place.IN Europe...

    Portugal not qualifying for the playoffs was a shock, Sweden at the expense of Scotland, The Euro 96 Runners up the Czech Republic were probably the main shocks. The playoffs went as expected so only those 3 really.

    The only other shock non-qualifier was Iran beating Australia in the intercontinental playoff...

    So to summarise. The teams who were expected to qualify but didn't

    Egypt, Uruguay, Portugal, Sweden, Czech and Australia...

    Edit - Dan I agree there.
