What could be wrong with my toe?

I have been having pain under my little toe nail for almost a year now on and off. Yes, I have already been to see a doctor about this. So before you tell me, “We can’t tell you anything we’re not doctors,” I already tried seeing a doctor and he couldn’t find anything wrong with my toe. And when I had it x rayed nothing showed up. I know, this isn’t a place for medical advice I just want opinions for what might be going on. Not for me to listen and take seriously. I’ll talk to a doctor about these things. I’m just curious about your opinions here.

Poke, prod, bend, and press around on the toe until you

cause the same pain.  Then pin

point the exact spot where the problem occurs and the type of circumstance that causes the pain.  If its not a problem with an ingrown nail as suggested in another answer, possible causes might include walking with your weight centered on the outside of your foot or walking with your foot angled out like a duck; wearing shoes that are too narrow; or sitting in a chair with your ankles crossed and the weight of your leg supported by the outside of your foot.
