If it's considered impulsive to buy a $10 million home making $80k/yr then isn't it still poor judgement for someone making $5 million a yr?

When looking at the big picture, it's still just a few people taking up a lot of space

The person making $80k/year would not be approved for a mortgage on a $10 million residence so this is an impossible scenario - unless they paid cash, in which case we'd need to understand what other resources they have to determine if was an impulse-buy.

The person making $5M/year might be able to afford the $10M mortgage, but we don't know what other expenses they have, if this is one year at $5M/year or 10 years making $5M/year.

You're missing a lot of details for us to provide you a useful response.

I think its poor judgement. Id just stay rich and live in a decent home in the city and just live off my money. it blows my mind how people can make millions but spend it on mortgages and expensive cars so they have to keep going back to work. Retirement is always on my mind, i am trying to live a good life. Take just 1 month off a work and you will see where my mind is at. Life is soo much better and its better on your physical and mental health when you have no stress of a job, you can do whatever you want whenever you want, i truly feel free, this is what life is about, working is just something we have to do because everything cost money, we werent born to work

There are guidelines out there for what % of your income you should spend on a house.   10 million when you make 5 million is totally affordable

Doesn't matter what it's "considered". Have to do what makes sense for you. On the other hand is it even possible to do that, the bank allows it?
