Why is the lockdown due to COVID-19 if ordinary flu can kill a person, and that coronaviruses cause colds has been known for 40 years?

The common cold is caused by the rhinovirus, not covid. The flu is caused by influenza. 

Covid is similar to SARS. Covid is more contagious and deadly then a cold SARS or the flu. There wasn't a vaccine for covid until recently. There is a vaccine for the flu and remedies for the common cold. 

A lock down is meant to keep people from gathering in large numbers which spreads covid. Covid is a relatively new virus, it hasn't been around for 40 years.

COVID-19 is much more deadly than the flu. The worst flu seasons have about 30,000 deaths. We've lost HALF A MILLION people to COVID!! If that doesn't explain the restrictions to you, you have no heart or mind. Yes, we probably should be wearing masks and distancing during flu season- people in many cultures do, and it saves thousands of lives. But you can't equate the flu to COVID-19

1.  Until recently, there was no vaccine for covid. We have a bunch of vaccines for the flu. Every year, we got a cocktail mixture of 3 flu vaccines based on what the CDC thinks are the 3 most likely variants to hit the states. 

2.  The flu isn’t as infectious as covid.  Look at how many people have been infected by covid in 1 year. Something like 30 million. 

3.  More infections equal more death even if the percentage is the same. If the flu and covid kills 2% of the population:  if 1 million get infected with the flu, 20,000 people died. If 5 million are infected, then 100,000 died. That’s why there’s a lockdown for covid. The less people that gets infected, the less people will die.
