Why has Jim Cornette thrown away friendships due to difference of philosophies of the wrestling business?

  • Jim Cornette doesn't seem to have a lot of patience when it comes to stupid stuff in storylines these days and he's not afraid to speak his mind and let people know.

While I agree with The Bottomline that some of Cornette's podcast persona is indeed just a persona, he's definitely abandoned a lot of friendships over some really petty wrestling related stuff.  I get that he cares about wrestling the way it used to be, but I don't think he's on speaking terms with Kenny Bolin or Chris Jericho anymore and a big reason behind it seems to be wrestling related.  It would be one thing if the guy actually had a hand in wrestling anymore, but he really doesn't outside of being a talking head pundit on his own podcast and nowhere else.

The truth, and this is in my opinion..I believe Jim Cornette's whole persona is a work.

Yes he does have his old ways of liking wrestling, doesn't like a lot of the new stuff..but if you listen to his criticism and take away the tone he uses where it sounds like he bashes everything new, often times what he says makes sense. Personally I love listening to his stories from the past more than him talking about today's wrestling. You can't take away his past, he was one of the best heel managers ever.

But back to what I mean by his whole persona is a work. There are times where I watch something in AEW for example (He loves bashing everything AEW btw) and I can tell it's something new that he would hate. Then I'd see them do something, that is good (I do mostly like AEW..fyi) and feels kind of similar to something old school. I'd think about what Cornette's opinion of it is...I'd catch one of his videos on youtube about that and he straight up just dogs everything about it. He does this all the time and mostly with AEW, so my take is:

Either he just hates the Youngbucks so much and everything they do that he'll just bash anything they do or anything connected with AEW just to do it.

    or

He does this on purpose, it's his character on purpose because that character bashing everything AEW also gains an audience for his podcast/show and it's his way of getting himself attention. I honestly don't see how every single thing AEW does is so horrible that Jim calls it one of the worst things ever every single time. Like there's no middle ground ever?..at the least?

So personally I believe he bashes everything in AEW just to do it for a specific audience and the niche he's carved himself in the podcast world. Remember Jim is a great talking heel, so he's great at talking bad about something if he really wants to. ..and I actually don't think he hates every single thing that happens in AEW, he just says he does.

I believe Jim Cornette is a work..and if it alienates some people it doesn't bother him because he doesn't have any intentions of coming back to wrestling (especially after his racial joke in NWA), but also I think the people in wrestling that see he's doing this on purpose, get it.

That is my honest take on Jim Cornette.

He's passionate about the business and slightly crackers if I'm honest. He seems to be from a generation set in their ways and unwilling to change that. I like Cornette and think he has a lot to offer, his podcasts can be hilarious at times, just need to ignore the extreme stuff
