Why are people still posting anonymously in Global Warming?

I agree with Jim2, they don't want to be blocked...

Like you, I had never blocked anyone; not even the moron Cyclops, who blocked all of us who accept the reality of AGW.  As far as I know, he was the only one who blocked me; most on the 'skeptics' side having the decency to remain open to criticism and comment, even insult from time to time, as was I.

But I made an exception with the deluded troll who has been trying to drag this site down for the last 2 years or so. (111 blocked accounts so far).  He blocked me too; many times, as and when I called out his garbage as such.  So I started posting anonymously since it was sometimes necessary to respond either to him or to a 'skeptic' reply to one of his 'questions'.   Sometimes, when my main account is blocked, I use this second account for that purpose.  I keep it anonymous solely to prevent him blocking.

Looking at other recent responses it seems I am not alone with this approach.

My account was banned ..... with just 11 days left.  Had to start one from scratch .   

The user named “FSM” is a Dirac sock puppet.  

I'd guess 1/3 of people here have additional accounts; however, there was nothing quite as bizarre as Dirac's sock personas:

David & Darwinist: Those expressed Dirac's desire for fatherhood.

Cowboy: Catharsis account for Dirac.

Koshka:  This was Dirac's mommy account.

Jim2: The naive ying to Dirac's narcissistic yang.

KingCheeto, ConnieConvict, etc: Low level throwaway accounts expressing Dirac's deep disdain for all things conservative.

FSM: This was Dirac's anti-hero account.  FSM claimed he wrote the bot.  It was a final and bizarre twist to declare victory over the horrible me in Dirac's morality play. 

There are a 4 good reasons to post anonymously.

1) It makes it more difficult to block people and there are a few people who block just for "fun", they are easy to spot btw, they complain about people posting anonymously.

2) Cyclops would posts anonymously, but since he was the only one who blocked me, I also knew it was him who blocked me, so I just cut and paste the answer and modify it a little to mention cyclops in the answer using another account.  The only downside is that it would take a minute to switch to the other account and back.

3) Now we are all here anonymously anyway as none of us use our real name,  I believe "names" introduce a bias towards the poster, which, for the most part  I tried hard to avoid myself.  (But I will admit that I came down harder on Sagebrush, because I believe the man is pure evil)

4) There is one looser, you know him well, who would copy the name and picture, to use them in one of his many sock accounts, in a futile attempt to troll people.  Posting anonymously stops that childish tactic.

I really don't get what you were trying to accomplish, you have been beaten in your own silly game and your only "success" has been the destruction of this section.  Your behavior is like a child who destroys other kids sand castles because he is jealous and unable to make sand castles himself.  The difference is that you are dealing with adults on YA who have a thick skin, else they wouldn't be here.  If you are looking for attention, why not make a better looking sand castle?  Ii the case of global warming, why not write a paper that proves or disproves the current theories of global warming?

Go and do something you can be proud of it can be as simple as mowing the lawn of a neighbor who is sick or old, make a playground for the neighborhood kids on an empty lot.  JimZ has his bird photography and on top of that he picks up the trash he finds when he goes out to do his hobby.

I hope for every one's sake that you turn your life around and become a productive member of society (you will need professional help to get there, but that is ok)

Sometimes I just HAVE to respond to some really bad posts, and the posters generally have my Jim2 account blocked. So I use one of my other accounts (I have three total) to respond with the unblockable 'Anonymous'! (I posted a few times under my account name on my third account, and it is blocked too.) I have never answered my own questions under any other account name, which means I also never gave myself best answer.

To be fair, when I first started posting here a few months ago, I blocked about five people for excessive rudeness.
