Have you ever tried this? lol It would take about a month!

It takes an absurd amount of time to thaw a turkey in a fridge.  They say that because of the possibility of bacteria forming.  When I thaw turkey I will often make a brine and soak the turkey overnight in it.  It's usually thawed by the next day and is tender and flavorful from the brine.

Simple, straight forward answer- it keeps bacteria from growing.

It always takes longer than they say it will. I have thawed frozen turkey in the refrigerator and I have also thawed it - following the proper guidelines - in cold water in the sink (keeping the turkey covered with water and changing the water completely every 30 minutes).

We have never gotten sick from either method.

But for the SUREST chance of safety, thaw it in the refrigerator rather than in cold water.

YOU are not a cook. Any decent cook knows this to be true. And any decent cook will tell you that it also prevents bacteria from growing on the turkey.

It would take about 5 days, and would start growing gobs of salmonella bacteria if the Turkey was infected. It keeps "Stupid" people from poisoning themselves.
