Is Granite or Stainless Steel Mortar & Pestle Best?

I'm seeing more stainless steel mortar & pestles lately. Which do you prefer  (granite/stone vs. stainless steel) for spices, pesto, guacamole, curry paste, etc.?

It seems like stainless steel may be easier to clean (and may be more thoroughly cleaned) vs. the rubbly granite texture that would probably hold on to at least some of the previous spice mix or paste.
