Shay is almost correct and diabetes is not having the hormone insulin.
What is called diabetes II is not really diabetes but a metabolic disorder brought on by a diet high in added sugars and white flour products and low in insoluble fiber AKA not only or mostly whole foods and water, unsweetened teas and unflavored milk.
Toxins create insulin resistance. Fructose, alcohol, trans fats and corn-fed animal products (BCAAs).
"Diabetes II" is 99.9999% preventable and even sometimes reversible within the first few months after diagnosis, IF the regular diet is changed BACK to the human diet.
Obesity, diabetes II and most heart disease are side effects of straying from that diet of whole foods that we evolved with.

A condition in which insulin does not correctly process sugar from the blood to turn it into energy for the body. It causes the glucose levels in the blood to be too high. In short, diabetes is high blood sugar levels.
Type 1 diabetes - with type 1 diabetes, the body has stopped producing insulin so there is no insulin to convert sugar into energy and the sugar remains in the blood.
Type 2 diabetes - with type 2 diabetes, the body is insulin resistant. There is still insulin there, but the blood cells are not correctly using the insulin to process sugar out of the blood.
