  • What kind of tree is this?

It blooms twice a year, typically late spring and in the fall. VERY, VERY fragrant with purple small, stringy flowers. Immature berries are green, mature ones are a yellowy brown. The leaves are tapered and about 2.5" - 3" long and about .5" - .75" wide. The bark on this tree is not smooth, but is not like an oak either (which is the only other non-fruit tree I can easily identify, that isn't a type of cedar or christmas tree).

This "thing" messes with my allergies something awful when in bloom, so any help is appreciated.

  • Those who believe Mormons and others need to be saved: What makes you not try?

Ok, so I know that most of you who are on here, that believe this, ARE trying. So perhaps this question can't be answered. But give it a shot anyway.

My boss (a Baptist) mentioned the other day, that according to Baptist beliefs, she should be trying to "save" me (as I am LDS), but that she thinks there is more than one way to heaven, more than one "correct church", and so she doesn't really feel like she needs to do that.

Just wondering, what do you think? What do your friends who aren't as...outgoing, as you, think?

  • Would it bother you if the local celebrity was a member of an "unacceptable" religion?

I think I may have "outed" our local celebrity, unwittingly. It never occured to me that my boss would make as big of a deal about it as she has - NOT that she has made a big issue of it, but I can tell it's weighed HEAVILY on her mind. She's said that if some of her Baptist friends knew, it might effect their support of the local celebrity. (not a movie star, or anything, just your run of the mill, local who is well known).

  • Non-believers/Disbelievers: What is Faith?

I know what we believers mean when we say that we have faith and that you do not. But what is faith, to you?

And please let's all come up with something better than the standard atheist rhetoric such as "a crutch for the feeble minded" and such. Most of you are too bright to descend to this level of response, so give it some thought, and tell me how you define faith.

  • If you knew you only had a couple of hours left, would you do something you don't already do?

Why? If it's a good thing, why aren't you doing it already?

And if it's something that is, say, illegal - why would you all of a sudden feel the need to do it in your last remaining hours? Would it give you some sort of peace or something??

I don't necessarily want JUST protein, but more protein than not. Something quick (of course), maybe even something I can make ahead. Any suggestions?

  • Why do some people not go to church every Sunday, but consider themselves VERY religious?

I don't mean this in an insulting way, or to insinuate that I am better than anyone because I know I'm not better than anyone.

But I was raised that on Sunday you go to church. To do so with the right intent, and a good attitude, with love in your heart and towards God and mankind is better (of course) than doing so begrudgingly, but still you went to church - even when you didn't want to because that's probably when you needed it most.

However, I was raised Methodist and perhaps (not sure) that was part of the "method" that makes a Methodist a Methodist.

I have friends and family members who are Baptist. They don't seem to place as high of an importance on attending church as I do. I don't judge them for it. But I wonder, does it have something to do with Baptists generally believing that if you don't agree with what Pastor A is saying, then go to Pastor B's church? And if you've been to several different churches, and still can't find one you like, then is that how they get to the point where they don't think it's a big deal to not attend for weeks or months at a time?

Again, I don't mean any disrespect by this question. I know it can appear that I am judging or being insenstive. That is not my intent, I just want to know how someone develops that belief/pov.

  • Do you think Wal-Mart could do a better job running Wall Street?

    1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day.

    2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

    3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) more than Target sells all year.

    4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

    5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer. And most can't speak English

    6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World ..

7.. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

    8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (including Winn-Dixie).

    9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

    10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which

1,906 are SuperCenters; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

    11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.)

    12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart Let Wal-Mart bail out Wall Street. Better yet . . . let them run the Government!

Perhaps Wall Street could undergo a slight respelling of their name - Wal-Street...what d'ya think?

  • Jewish Friends: Is there a link that lists the Jewish months (when they start and stop) and links them with?

    the western calendar?

For example, whatever the name of the first month is in Hebrew, and when on the western calendar it begins and ends, and so on through the entire Jewish calendar?

I just read an article that says this year is a Jubilee year, and I thought it might be interesting to see when (on the western calendar) the 7th day of the 7th month of this Jubilee year is.

What would you call the type of person who would do this? (I'm not looking to name call, or berate, just wondering - are they still a "member" of that religion, or are they something else?)

  • What does the "M" in NCAA-M mean?

I know NCAA means it's a college sport, but does it reference college mens basketball? It's the only thing I can come up with, but I'm not sure it's right. I've seen it several times on the sports score crawler at the bottom of the screen, and it's driving me nuts.

  • My 06 Toyota is making a high pitched sound, something like a cross between windchimes and the squealing of a ?

hearing aid. It definitely sounds like metal on metal, and happens when the car is in motion. I can have my foot on the gas, the brake or on nothing at all and as long as the car is in motion it makes that sound. Does anyone know what it might be? I plan on taking it in next week, but I'd like to know where on the money scale it is ($, $$, $$$, $$$$, give up and buy another vehicle). Are we talking $50 - 150, 150 - 300, 300 - 500, or more than 500?

So does anyone have a clue what it might be and the estimated cost?

  • What kind of a person steals toilet paper and laundry soap?

Ok, so like an idiot I left my car unlocked last Saturday. I went grocery shopping that day, and the day before I went Wal-Mart shopping. I left the TP and laudry soap in the car on Friday thinking I'd get it on Saturday. I borrowed my parents little green steam machine over Thanksgiving and it was in the car too. I also left a small overnight sized duffle bag in the car thinking I'd get it when I got the other stuff out of the car later that day. It was about 6:15 when I got home and I hadn't eaten since about 7:00am that day. I had to do laundry and wanted to get it started before it got too late. So I dragged in the groceries, put them up, ate supper, started my laundry, and colapsed on the couch. I completely forgot about the stuff in the car until it was time to switch stuff from washer to dryer. By then I thought, Oh I'll just leave it until tomorrow, not realizing that meant I was leaving the car unlocked as well. The next morning it was raining and when I went to unlock the car to put the umbrella in the back seat I realized it was unlocked and upon opening the back door realized something didn't look right...my laundry soap was missing...and the little green steam machine! About an hour later I realized that my bag was missing too, and of all things my TP!

I take full responsibility for leaving my car unlocked and for leaving all that stuff in my car. But who steals laundry soap and toilet paper - I mean I guess I understand stealing the bag and the steam machine (I suppose there's a little value in those things), but TP and soap???!!!!??!?!?!

Oh, and, does this mean that the person who stole my stuff wasn't Christian?
