I am me

  • student loan won't be enough to live on and perants will not support me at all? what help is there out there?

I will get a part time job however my course is 5 days a week. I worried that even with a job I won't be able to live well at uni. After rent I only have £2000 for the whole year however I am 21 and my parents refuse to help me financially at all if the time comes so I'm stuck really. My father earns £31,000 and my mother doesn't work because she is disabled. So that makes me fall into a bracket where I don't no apply for anything. I will be also doing a full time course so I cannot apply for some benefits. I'm really worrying and want to find out if there is somewhere to turn if I do come to money troubles and need support

  • Student accomidation as a couple?

Im am looking to go to uni and my partner will also be going (we are doing the course) would it be allowed that we share 1 bedroom rather than 2 bedrooms for both of us, saving on rent? as we would then split that rooms rent in half between as we are only using one room

  • applying to uni 3 years after sixth form?

Im looking into marine ecology and probably need to apply to uni. I have been doing youth work for 3 years and it just isn't what I want to do with my life and this feels like the way. However I was not allowed to do science in sixth form as there was not enough students so I do not having science a levels ( I have design technology, sociology, history and an AS in philosophy and ethics) I do have a c Iin science GCSE. Do I stand any chance of getting into a course without the science? Has any one done something like this before with their course?

  • mechanic - made to pay for car part from own pocket after mistake?

My partner was welding under a car and took the Normal precautions to best prevent a fire however a part caught fire and was damaged. He was then told he would have to pay for the car part when got it from the scrap yard, which cost £20. There must be some law that prevents this. Yes it's not much money however I worry that next time a biggier mistake might happen and he will have to pay hunrdeds. Is there a law that is meant to prevent this happening?

Or is this acceptable by law?

  • Best type of intensive driving course for me?

Ive already had 25 hours of lessons, i will finish my block of lessons at 30 hours. I have done my theory test and now want to push forward my progression with my practical test. I currently have to careful with days of driving as 1) its a secret from my boyfriend so weekends and a thursday i cant risk him seeing me . 2) i work in a college 9-2 and so can only do lessons from 2-4pm on weekdays as i also volunteer at youth groups from 6-9/10pm. Half term is coming up soon and so i have a lot of time and i wanted to maybe invest into a intensive course. I feel im quite good at driving and learnt a lot so do not think a 30 hour course will be useful. Which course would people recommended I would be able to do up to 4pm on weekdays (minus thursday) and all day sunday. What would you recommend?

  • Is there anything wrong or I can do about this car insurence claim?

3 months ago the driver infront suddenly stopped for no reason, I managed to almost stop in time but just tapped her bumbper. As a mecanic I can look stuff over and when I looked the bumped had just unclipped a little so I popped it in and there was a half inch crack. We decided to settle outside of the insurence because there was nothing really.she said she'd call but her father did and we also said yes settle outside the insurence because I know where to go to get it fixed. A month later my insurence calls saying they reported it and the insurence said also settle it outside of us, the'd send an assesor and call me. They never called and now today I get end of year insurence and they paid the people £365 for it! No call to me to let me know nothing. And they renewed my insurence without letting me know also. It is in the contract but shouldn't they still call and confirm? The job that it was was no more than £50, all it needed was quick thing and done, so why have the insurence done this? Help please

  • Being forced to take holiday for hospital appointment?

My partner had a doctors appointment for his leg this morning, its a worsening muscle problem and he is a mechanic ,so this effects his job, this is only the second time he has needed to go to a doctor during work. Today he has been told he has to take off a day of his holiday to go to the doctors for an hour and that he has to still work the rest of the day. He work does not offer sick pay, however they are surely allowed 1 week unpaid sick leave? what can be done in this situation. surely its not right that you take holiday for a hour or two to go to a hospital appointment which if not attended could mean he is off for months rather than just an hour.
