  • Why doesn't this prayer work?

What would happen if we get down on our knees and pray to God in this way:

Dear God, almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the universe, we pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet tonight. We pray in faith, knowing you will bless us as you describe in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We pray sincerely, knowing that when God answers this completely heartfelt, unselfish, non-materialistic prayer, it will glorify God and help millions of people in remarkable ways.

Will anything happen? No. Of course not.

    Can any believers explain why?

Does anyone know roughly how much this may cost me?

  • Some strange Bible rules?

How come in Isicial 8 it says it's wrong to masterbate but ok to have sex with your family? That seems a little backward! How come no one follows those rules, since disobeying the bible gets you to hell?

  • An Interesting new study?

A new study shows that 2 religious parents have a 50% chance of passing on their religion and if there is only 1 religious parent theres even less chance. If neither parents are religious then theres very little chance the child will become religious at all.

If that continues then in a few generations religion may well fizzle out. Thoughts?

If not how much evidence do you need?

  • Creationists - Please explain this (link to BBC)?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8273938.stm

Just wondering how you would explain this. Is it possible to explain it with out resorting to "god is testing us"? Where in the bible did it say hed test us with things like this in that case?

  • Question about the arc (for those who take the story literally)?

The arc was 450 feet by 75 feet and had 3 stories. It had 7 of every clean animal and 2 of every unclean animal.

There are 6,000 species of reptiles, 9,000 birds, 1,000 amphibians, and 15,000 species of mammals and of course Noahs family. How on earth did they all fit??

  • Does god dislike some more than others?

So we can't control where we are born right? Some places have no way of knowing about the christian god, like people living in Africa or the tribes in South America.

The Bible clearly says non believers go to hell. It doesn't say "unless theyre good" just simply that theyre screwed.

So not only does god have these people born with out a chance, he also has them born in a place full of dangerous animals! Thats not fair!

For example, in South America you have some very large effective preditors that will eat people, also many parasites and highly venamous snakes and insects.

Seems a little cruel to me! Any ideas as to why? (apart from the obvious issue he has with not being real)

  • Are drugs a sin? If so why did god make them?

To test us? Thats hardly fair.

I know if I were to hand something to my dog that I knew he'd enjoy very much, he'd take it. I couldn't punish him for taking it if I'm the one that gave it to him!

Doesn't make any sense to me.

  • What do you think to this video?

This is someone who can convert atheists into christians using scientific and psychological techniques and a form of hypnosis/brainwashing. He did this as an experiment to see just how easy it was to do. Nothing supernatural about it and he can explain exactly how everything works.

http://player.uk.msn.com/entertainment/derren-brow... (youll have to watch some adverts first :( )

This is a full episode of the show Messiah but it's well worth the watch as its very informative.

Any thoughts? I find it scary just how easy it is to do.

  • What if the "rapture" doesn't happen before we run out of oil?

We will run out of oil soon, in our life time (for those under 50)

When oil runs out this means no more petro-fertilizers (the most effective by far) and ofcourse farming equipment requires oil. So that means the amount of food produced will be drastically reduced. The population will also be at 10 billion by then

With no oil, the food we do manage to produce will not be able to get transported anywhere. There will be no electricity and so no communication. We will be left to fend for our selves!

So many of us rely on picking up food from shops and having the hard things in life done for us by technology (getting clean water for example)

So in short, most people will die, but not all.

What if god lets this happen and the rapture doesn't happen any time soon. Are you going to get prepared just in case or are you going to put your faith in god and end up dying because you cant look after your self? Seems silly to me.

Maybe hes curious to see how we fair with out our technology since we have become dependant on it. Or more likely, hes not real and there will never be a rapture!

  • What ever happened to Lilith?

Why do people foget she was the first wife of Adam? If you didn't even know then thats something to look up. If I post it all here no one will be bothered to read it :P

God cursed her so she would forever walk the earth feeding off the blood of babies (kinda like the first vampire I guess!)

So if she forever walked the Earth where is she now?

Atheists - I know its a just a fairy tale! Just interested in peoples thoughts. Some take this litrally is all.

  • Could someone explain this quote? Why do so many work on Sundays?

For six days, work is to be done, but the 7th day is a sabbath of rest, holy to the lord. Whoever does any work on the sabbath day MUST BE PUT TO DEATH

    exodus 31:15

How come many people work on Sundays now, and many people don't work on saturday which should be a day of work.

Its clearly not relevent today, people need to work more because of the economic crisis - but it says the law of the lord should never change and is perfect - clearly not! And whys the penalty so severe?

If Jesus said that this doesn't need to be followed any more can anyone provide any proof? Or is this another rule thats ignored because it suits us.
