  • What is this discogram term?

I'm transcribing some audio, and a neurosurgeon is talking about abnormal discography results. He's saying something that sounds like "metametric forameter" or "metametric parameter" and I cannot find the correct terminology for the life of me. It's also possible the audio cuts out briefly between the two words and there is another word in the middle of those two.

    Any suggestions?! Help!

  • Where do the comma and period go in this sentence?

He used to be 6'2" but now he's 5'11"

My feeling is outside the quotation mark indicating the inches. I know commas and periods usually go inside quotation marks, but I think this might be an exception. Would love some feedback.

  • What is the weirdest answer your first date could give to "What's your favorite movie?"?

This is just for fun. What answer would confuse you, weird you out, maybe even cause you to get up and leave? LOL.

  • Can I do anything more to help my dog get on a schedule?

I rescued a 5yr old female terrier mix from a local shelter 3 days ago. I found this schedule for adult dogs which I decided to use because it fits into my lifestyle.

    http://www.petplace.com/dogs/ideal-dog-schedule/pa...

Wherever it says nap time, I am crating her so she gets used to not peeing inside during those times. (I live in an apartment)

Anyway, this morning, we walked for 45 minutes and she peed once along the way. Then we had breakfast. Then not even a minute after she finished eating and drinking, as I was grabbing the leash to take her outside again for a potty break, she got on the carpet and squatted. I disciplined her mid-pee and said "Outside" and then took her to her spot. She wouldn't go.

I had a pee scented rag that I kept from her first accident and put it in the spot I wanted her to pee. I scattered treats in the area so she would sniff around. She did pee there once before and of course I showered her with praise and gave her a mega treat.

I realize it's early in our training, and I have all the patience in the world for this sweet little thing. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I can do to coax her or if it's just a matter of time before she catches on (and if so, days? weeks? months?) . She is my first dog, so I'm hoping to hear from experienced dog owners, especially anyone who's adopted an adult dog before.

  • How do I format a block quotation in the middle of a sentence?

I'm transcribing audio, so the rules are a bit more flexible since I can't change what the person said, but I need some basic guidance, perhaps from you MLA experts out there.

Someone quotes from a document for more than four lines, but it's right in the middle of his sentence. I don't remember what, if any, rule there is for transitioning from a block quotation to the remainder of the sentence.

For example, is it a brand new double-indented paragraph starting with the next unquoted word (lowercase, perhaps)?

  • How do I change all but one weight in a recipe?

Let's say I have a combination of ingredients that equal a certain weight. If I want to change all but one ingredient's weight so that my total weight is less but I've kept the same proportion of the rest of the ingredients, is there a formula I can use to do that?

    e.g.

    3 lbs butter

    2 lbs sugar

    2 lbs soda

    4 lbs flour

    5 lbs love

    = 16 lbs total

Now I want to make the total recipe 15 lbs, but I want to keep 5 lbs of love the same.

    How do I do that??

  • Is there a movie/TV scene where a guy gets in a car and drives like two feet?

I'm trying to remember a scene in a comedy movie or maybe a TV show where someone gets in a car and drives a really short distance, like maybe a couple feet, to get to his destination.

  • What is a good party activity?

Throwing a cocktail party for my mom's 50th. Live music, dancing, hosted bar and about 60 to 75 guests. I was trying to think of a relatively quick and easy activity that could involve prizes. Something along the line of a raffle maybe, or a quick contest. Maybe like let's make a deal where I stand up on the dance floor with the mic and ask for random items for the guests to bring up for prizes. Suggestions?

  • How should I word and format a birthday invitation (no children, no gifts, etc.)?

My siblings and I are hosting a 50th birthday party for our mom. It is going to be a dressy affair at a country club with live music, dancing, cocktails and food. She has described in the past her dream party, and this is it. She has said that if she were to have this kind of party, she wouldn't want gifts or children at the party.

Usually, our family is like the more the merrier and bring whatever is in your heart to bring, so I've never had to put this kind of thing on an invitation.

I was thinking of putting all the party information at the top, and then below the RSVP line at the bottom putting a smaller note like "Your presence is her present! Adult only party."

Is that okay? Do you have any better suggestions?

  • Is there a service that will call a friend with a funny birthday message?

I want to send someone a funny birthday message on her phone, like a guy with a sexy voice wishing her a happy birthday. Has anyone done something like this? Any recommendations for online services? Thanks!

  • What is the best cordless electric fillet knife?

I want to get my dad a cordless electric fillet knife for his birthday. We go freshwater fishing about once a month and catch mostly trout and bass, and it's never more than a cooler full. Basically, this knife will get used regularly, but it most likely won't be beat up by huge fish or a large quantity of fish. I just want to give him something that makes the filleting process super easy. What is the best one for him to try?

  • Will my crochet technique affect projects?

I have been crocheting off and on for years, but just recently I'm getting really into it. I'm trying more and more difficult patterns which has required me to do some reading up on technique. I am now realizing that for all this time, I have been crocheting in back loops only. I never knew that basic crochet stitches are worked into both loops. Imagine my surprise.

The thing is I've never noticed any negative effects. My projects turn out like the pictures included with patterns. Everything I make gets praised for looking beautiful. I just want to know from someone who has been crocheting for a while, is my technique bad for more complex patterns if back loop only isn't called for?

  • What are some fun party ideas for 20-something females (more details inside)?

The idea is that it's going to be a very girly party...a party to take us all back to the days of the classic slumber party. Everybody I've talked to already wants me to teach them how to crochet, so I've decided to give everybody the assignment of picking out one skein of yarn that appeals to them so they can make a scarf. I'm thinking of a party with finger foods, sangria and chick flicks playing in the background.

I'm also thinking pink and polka dots and little dainty gift bags for them to take home.

So that should give you a pretty good idea of the feeling I'm trying to create. Do you have any awesome ideas for this party? Any ideas at all in the way of food, games, crafts, movies, music, etc.

Also, what would be a good title for this party to put on the invitation? Since we're crocheting, I was thinking of doing a play on the word "hooker," but I don't know...

  • What are some gift ideas for a newly single 23-year-old young woman?

My cousin is newly single. She is kind of in a "screw all guys on the face of the earth" phase. I'd love to send her some little gifts to make her laugh and lift her spirits. Any cute ideas?
