if you pay child support does that automatically give you parental rights?

NOPE.
but, they are right, they are SEPARATE and NON CONDITIONAL issues, and handled separately in court as well.
--there are no "father rights" in child support
--there are no "mothers rights" in child support
--there are ONLY the child(rens) rights.
if you mean.... you file for child support... and then there is a record of your family and whats going on?
once you file for child support, you become part of the system, but visitation is handled in family court, not child support dept of the county courts.
but keep in mind, the honor system doenst work... and thats been proven. thats also why state/federal government passed stronger child support laws.
each state is different (slightly) about their own guidelines, so go to the links below for help. simply click on your state and find what you need.
also, save these links; you'll need them one day.

Nope! Child support is what the absent parent should pay in order to help the custodial parent raise their child. But if there are good reasons the absent parent shouldn't have visitation, then that will be brought in court or in mediation. My children's biological father had a good job, but was an abusive alcoholic. Just because you make good money doesn't make you a responsible parent.
- 1 decade ago
That question is most often answered in court by a judge. Paying doesn't have anything to do with parental 'rights', You have to be a good parent in the court's eyes to have parental rights.

No! My daughter's father has to pay child support because it is the law. A lawyer said that because he chose not to have any contact with her, he has NO parental rights.

NO WAY!..I tracked down my ex husband who was living in Laguna Nigal.. CA...got his pay check attached after he left his child in CT with nothing for 8 years...the creep called my son asking to see him once his pay check was garnished...money does not give parental rights!
- racer 51Lv 71 decade ago
a parent has rights even w/o paying support unless they have given them up legally.
- JeanbugLv 61 decade ago
Nope. Parental rights are dictated by the court.
Source(s): been there, done that. - 1 decade ago
if the father isn't allowed to see the child he isn't responsible for support that's how it goes in CA WA and OR not so sure about other places

no it means you lose most of your rights and your life lol
