What should I name my shelter?

If you are going to provide other services besides housing (counseling, case management, etc), or if your agency will actually be calling women (for example, to follow up on a call), I would recommend picking a name that has an acronym that is a women's name. Here in the Bay Area, one of our DV agencies is Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse, but it's referred to by its acronym CORA. So when we would call women, we could say, "Hi, this is Cora," and their partner wouldn't get suspicious.

That is wonderful. My fiance is a supervisor at a state funded shelter for abused women and children. I always call her my angel.

So how about naming your shelter, "Arms of Angels" or "Arms of an Angel."

Check with your state's Secretary of State office to see if these names are being used by someone else.

What a great idea and one I've never heard of before! Pets are like 'children' and I can see people staying in abusive situations if they have to leave their pets behind.

How about 'Safe Haven for People With Pets' or 'Safe Haven for People and Their Pets' so that everyone clearly knows who exactly your shelter is for.
