I love all critters, furry and scaly, cuddly and wild. Rescue dogs rule!

  • My friend's nearly-four-year-old is terrified of dogs. Suggestions?

They don't have any animals at home. He witnessed a dog attack and was told repeatedly by his former daycare provider that dogs will attack you. We were walking in the park the other day and two energetic young Weimaraners passed us. They were big dogs and definitely straining at the leash to greet us but I was shocked when he started screaming in mindless terror. He tried to run blindly into the woods but she managed to grab him. He shrieked and shrieked louder than anything I have ever heard and could not be soothed until they were out of sight. He was completely out of his mind with fear. She told me that she really wants to get a dog but doesn't know how to teach her son that dogs are friendly. Any suggestions?

  • I married a Cameroonian in 5/05, filed for green card in 8/05 - when will we see any signs of life from USCIS?

Every time we call, the "Customer Service" people give us this huge runaround, asking for dates and form numbers, etc. before telling us, "Your application will be processed in August 2006, November 2006, February 2007," etc. Does our paperwork even still exist? My husband has been called twice already to do his biometrics - did they lose his fingerprints??? I feel like we're being toyed with to force us to pay the huge "expedite" fees. They keep telling us our paperwork was transferred to this state or that state and then we check out the processing centers in those states and they don't even handle I-130s or I-485s (we filed both - he's a political asylee). I even tried writing to my senator's immigration office. She sent me a very polite "not my job" letter. I wouldn't be so worried/angry except we helped our friends fill out their paperwork at the same time and they got theirs a few months later. Other friends have gotten them within 6-8 months. What the heck is going on?!
