When are we going to take down the Statue of Liberty?

When are we going to take down the Statue of Liberty?

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

She shines her light saying "Welcome" and on the other side of the United States, we erect walls saying "KEEP OUT", "STAY AWAY".

How long did we pray the Berlin Wall come down? Only to erect our own. It makes no sense. Perhaps we can buy the Berlin Wall as salvage and erect it over here. Change the graffiti to english and people will just feel they are driving down a busy New York street.

We should be ashamed to build that wall. Tell other countries to tear down their walls and let freedom rule.. as long as it doesn't apply to us and we keep the mexicans OUT.

When are we going to take down the Statue of Liberty and tell all the huddled masses to huddle somewhere else. There is no more room at the inn.

Update:

There seems to be an underlying issue. The Statue of Libery states to come in. Yes, there was Ellis Island. I hardly think every person in the USA came through Ellis.

A lot of people took the question way to literally. It's about messages we send out. How we live our lives each day. Rather than build a fence, why don't we use that money for better purposes.

"They come and take our jobs and benefits". Try walking in a hospital uninsured. You'll get minimal treatment.

They, immigrants of any kind, come here for one thing. Freedom and a better life. There has got to be a better answer than the fence. It just looks bad.

If the Berlin Wall should go up once again, let's all keep our noses out of it and our eyes on our Mexican border. Of course, unless you want to pick strawberries for a living and send them home.

your crazy! What are you talking about? Your family as well as mine our ancestors came through ellis island, get over it. People come to america to be free, you have not the sence to see with your own eyes that people are suffering, they don't want to be controled anymore. They want jobs, how would you feel if someone told you how many kids you could have? What if someone told you where to shop and how to dress. Paid you in plants in fruit or vegtables instead of money? Wouldn't you want to be anywhere but there? The American Dream Duh!

No, they should not and since Obama betrayed Navy Seals Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty in Benghazi on 9-11-2012 in the most despicable, deplorable, treasonous manner, I'd say the Navy should tell Obama to stand down for the next 4 years til we can elect a real president who isn't elected via massive voter fraud. I'm certain the Seals and others can put it more colorfully than I have, but that's my answer for now and I'm sticking to it :) obama's masses don't care, that's why they cheated. Not a cool idea.

We're not going to take the Statue of Liberty down! It's meaningful today as in the past.

At one time most people entering the United States passed the Statue of Liberty and felt its welcome. They came expecting to work toward a better life. Today many immigrants never see her because they arrive by different means. Yet, we know she is there, always. . . .

What walls do we erect to keep legal immigrants out of this great country? We expect people to apply to enter and to enter expecting to become American citizens. If we are to continue to have a strong national allegiance there are certain things we must all do. One is to respect our country. Another is to learn about our country and the history of our country. A third is to work to improve our country. We must be aware of laws and obey them. If they are not to our liking we can try to change them. Change will come about and we must try to see that changes are to the good of the people. We can all be thankful for the opportunities and freedoms we have today. These same opportunities and freedoms are within reach of all who lawfully enter the United States.

Other countries also have limits. We are not alone. We must have expectations of ourselves and of those who hope to better themselves by coming to this country.

I understand it's to be removed on Valentine's day. Removal will begin at 4:00 AM; so you may want to get there at 3:30. Then we are going to re-direct the huddled masses in prisons back to Mehico.

First off we are not violating our county's principles, we are not enslaving our citizens and locking them inside. We have a right to guard our borders, ever at Ellis Island there were regulations.

Should we tear down our old monuments because the people we dedicated them to owned slaves?

Have a sense of national pride!

There is a heck of difference when you have to build a wall to keep people out versus one to keep people in.

You have no one but the liberals to blame.

I wouldn't mind if they came, but now we have a welfare state, and I don't think it's fair for people to come here illegally and get welfare.

Why do liberals only see bad things about America?

There is such a thing as legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. We are supposed to be a nation of laws and you want us to ignore people who are breaking our laws and reward them by making them citizens.
