  • tax question capital losses?

If a person invested 50k and it was now worth 25k, my understanding is they can write off only 3k of loss this year and carry over the loss from each year until it is gone. Is that correct? 3k doesn't sound like much of a deduction at all or even worth fooling with.

Holding on to it for a year or longer makes it longterm. I have had it about 9 months and still holding but have about a 25k loss so far.

  • FMLA, when does employer tell you that you used days?

I have an FMLA question. You miss three weeks of work and return on the following Monday. Once you return, how long is it before management must tell you how many days they are charging you for against your 60 days FMLA.

One would assume that you missed 5 working days each week for a total of 15 days. Did they work any Saturdays? etc. I thought I read a case where an employer told an employee he had used 9 days and he challenged that decision because once he returned to work, the company had 2 or 3 days to tell him they were counting it against his FMLA leave or they couldn't count it against him at all.

I am trying to find that ruling.

  • Bigfoot hoax a law violation to sell stuff?

I have read the news about the alleged "Bigfoot" body and most believe it is a hoax. Isn't that against the law to carry on a scam like that and then give people the url to their website to buy his Bigfoot stuff?

It's not legitimate advertising and this hoax is going to lead them to many sales of merchandise for which they will reap the profit.

I was sure this is a violation of the law. Anyone know which law this violates?

  • When are we going to take down the Statue of Liberty?

When are we going to take down the Statue of Liberty?

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

She shines her light saying "Welcome" and on the other side of the United States, we erect walls saying "KEEP OUT", "STAY AWAY".

How long did we pray the Berlin Wall come down? Only to erect our own. It makes no sense. Perhaps we can buy the Berlin Wall as salvage and erect it over here. Change the graffiti to english and people will just feel they are driving down a busy New York street.

We should be ashamed to build that wall. Tell other countries to tear down their walls and let freedom rule.. as long as it doesn't apply to us and we keep the mexicans OUT.

When are we going to take down the Statue of Liberty and tell all the huddled masses to huddle somewhere else. There is no more room at the inn.

  • Ohio lottery 10-OH game :wanted software to wheel numbers?

There are a LOT of programs out there that allow you to "wheel" your favorite lottery numbers. Does anyone know of any program that allows you to wheel up to 20 numbers, when you have to bet 10? I realize this game is new and software makers will have to program their games to add this one but I wanted to find one and experiment. Gambling.... such an addiction. Do it on paper for fun.
