Need help with Hydrangea bush?

Should you cut back a hydrangea bush in the Winter? And if it's cut back (almost to the ground), will it come back in the Spring?

Update:

I have no idea what kind of hydrangea it is. I've never had one. We just moved into this house in June. There was one bloom on it that was a very faded pink. All the rest looked like they had been cut off or picked. My husband trimmed it all the way to the ground without asking because he thought it looked "dead" and ugly. Now I hope it's not ruined completely.

Yes you can cut it back hard, also dig in some ericaceous soil if you want the flowers to be blue, otherwise normal soil for pink.

Mopheads and many big-leaf hydrangeas (H. macrophylla) bloom on old wood, so any late-season (or fall or winter) pruning you do erases next year's flowers.

The smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens), bloom on new wood so pruning those in late winter or early spring wouldn't be a problem.

'Endless Summer' is type of mophead hydrangea that will bloom no matter when they are pruned, & will regenerate the bloom bud even if the spring frost destroyed its old blooms.

If you're not sure what kind of Hydrangea you have, wait & prune it right after it blooms.

P.S. You're plant isn't ruined. It'll grow, but might not flower this year if it normally blooms on old wood.

Good Luck! Hope this is helpful.

Mine isn't a climber, yet final 12 months I had in simple terms 4 or 5 vegetation. This 12 months there would desire to be 500. this is attractive. I in simple terms cut back back a pair of million/2 way. Hydrangea loves coffee grounds. in simple terms unload and rake in on the brink of the bush.

Hydrangea plants like lots of shade. The more the better they come in blue, white, purple and lavender. You can cut them down to the ground during winter and they will sprout out right around mid-spring. They also like regular watering almost daily during summer.

They are susectible to powdery mildew (a fungus) so watch out for powdery substance on leaves.

You can by an pH additive to change color...the more acidic the soil the bluer, and the more neutral, the pinker
