  • Major mistake on taxes?

When doing our 2009 taxes, I made a major error. I utilized a deduction which we were not eligible for (private mortgage insurance). We don't even have private mortgage insurance (we have a VA guarantee, not the same thing). I realize this was a colossal mistake on my part, but it was an honest mistake. I was advised it was something else altogether. Reviewing our tax return for something else brought the error to light. We received our refund already. I know I need to file amended returns and repay the funds to the IRS and plan on doing this ASAP (we haven't spent the money yet). I can have it in prior to April 15th, which is good.

My question is, will this stupidity on my part red-flag us for audits or questioning on this tax return or future returns? I guess I'm just generally concerned how the IRS will view this. It was really a stupid mistake.

  • Learning Irish Gaelic?

Does anyone know any sites or programs or actual tutors who can teach Irish gaelic? I'm in Maryland (Baltimore) and would prefer a human tutor but will resort to one online or via software programming if need be. Any suggestions? Thanks for any advice given!

  • Removing hot glue from a jacket?

How would I remove hot crafting glue (already dried) from a jersey/sweatshirt type jacket? I thought of using acetone, but is that the right thing to do? I'm afraid if I use an iron with a towel or other similar technique, it will melt the glue further into the fabric since it's hot glue and not regular glue. Thanks for any advice!

Should you cut back a hydrangea bush in the Winter? And if it's cut back (almost to the ground), will it come back in the Spring?

  • Anyone been to this resort?

Has anyone been to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos, PA? Was it as nice as the website makes it out to be? What did you think of it and was it worth the price?

  • Help finding old children's book?

I am looking for an old children’s book -- from 1940’s or 1950’s -- I’m not really sure of the exact time frame. There is a vague recollection of the story being centered around rutabagas -- growing them, etc. I believe rabbits may been involved somehow (as characters or something like that). Rutabagas are the only for sure known factor about the book. It may have been a Golden Book or if not, written and bound in a similar way. I know this is not much to go on, but it’s all I have. I’m trying to find a collector’s edition for a friend of mine, but that’s all she really remembers. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Reason for lower back pain?

Other than muscle strain, what would cause constant lower back pain? For instance, could a bladder infection be the problem? I don’t seem to have any other symptoms of a bladder infection though. What else could it be do you think? Any help/info is appreciated.

  • Need Tiala recipe?

I'm not sure if I'm spelling the name right, but I think it's Tiala. It's an italian dish that's very similar to lasagna only instead of pasta, it's layered with thinly cut zucchini, potatoes, onions, and yellow squash. I had this recipe years ago, but I can't find it and I'd love to make it again. Can anyone help?

  • Law and Order Criminal Intent - this week's show?

I saw ads for a week that said this week's show, which aired last night (Thursday, 12/6) would be an extended show. The character, Robert Goren, was going undercover in a dept of corrections mental ward. There was a lot of hype in the ads about how it's too intense for just one hour. Then when the show aired, it was in it's usual time frame -- one hour. Also, the scenes shown in the preview ads did not appear in the show. What happened? Was the episode an extended version in some areas and not others? Does it matter who your cable/dish provider is? Why were the ads shown in our area if they weren't going to show the extended version? Does anyone know?

  • Mortgage Purchase/Refinance and Filing Taxes?

If we bought the house this year and then refinanced within the same year (for a rate reduction only); do we get to use both settlement figures for the tax deductions? I know there are certain allowable deductions when purchasing or refinancing -- but can they both be used in same year's taxes?

  • Mortgage refinancing question?

Would it be worth refinancing a home loan to get a lower rate? We could decrease the rate from 6.5 to 5.5 but it would add $12,000 to my current loan amount. It would remain a 30 year fixed. We'd also get to skip two months of payments (which is actually added into the loan, not really "skipped"); but it's still money in hand. The current mortgage is less than a year old. Would the refinance be worth it?

  • Help with replacing an electric range?

I have a free standing electric range (that sits flush against the wall) that needs to be replaced. Can I just do that myself if I have it delivered? Is it a simple procedure? I can have the old one picked up by the bulk trash people. But I don't want to screw up the installation. I know this may sound stupid, but is it just a matter of plugging the new one in where the old one was? Or is it more complicated than that? Of course I'm replacing the old one with a new one of the same size, components, etc. Thanks for the help!
