Millibars ARE hectopascals (hPa)

so 1 mb = 1 hPa

Because I'm not studying physics, I looked up for the definitions of these units in Wikipedia, and they are as follows :

"The bar, decibar and millibar are defined as:

1 bar = 100 kPa (kilopascals)..." [1]

"Milli- (symbol m) is a prefix in the SI and other systems of units denoting a factor of 10^−3, or 1/1,000." [2]

"Hecto- (symbol h) is a SI prefix in the SI system of units denoting a factor of 10^2 (100)." [3]

We can calculate and compare 1 millibar and 1 hectopascal based on the definitions cited above:

1 bar = 100 kPa = 100 x 1000 Pa

1 millibar = 1/1000 bar = (100 x 1000)/1000 Pa = 100 Pa

1 hectopascal = 100 Pa

So 1 millibar is identical to 1 hectopascal : 1 mbar = 1 hPa

1 pascal = .01 millibar, so

1 hectopascal = 1 millibar

Hecto is the prefix for "hundred".
