I am curious as to why you think you do not have enough milk?

Understand that baby is going to nurse almost continuously for the first 6 weeks and it levels off a bit only to return at the next growth spurt.

    Producing more?

-do not supplement with bottles or formula.

-Do not give a pacifier- when babies want to nurse- nurse. Nurse for comfort as well as hunger.

-Eat oatmeal- not scientifically proven but it does help to boost supply.

    Good luck!

    Edit:

For some mom's- being engorged is common with a first baby and not the second. It was this way with our son- who is now 11 and not our baby- who is 18 months.

Pumping is not going to be an indicator of how much milk you have.

You are already doing all the right things- nurse on demand. Your milk supply is not well-established as yet- it takes up to 4 weeks for that.

Good luck to you and congrats- you are doing fine mommy- go easy on yourself!

half hour on each side? That seems like too much.. my dr. always told me to feed only 10-15 min on each side. My son wanted to be fed every 2 hours for 4 months - It was tough. They say the more you pump/feed him, the more milk you produce. Are you sure he's eating that long? He might just be sucking but not really eating.. at 3 weeks his stomach is way too tiny to be able to drink an hour full of milk. You should consult a lactation consultant from your hospital.

How much you can pump bears no relation to how much milk you actual have or produce. Babies are FAR better at getting milk out than any pump.

When babies go through growth spurts, they nurse more. Just let them for a couple of days nurse, nurse, nurse. It will increase your supply to the babies new needs.

Drinking enough water is very important.

What you eat can help. Barley (I liked using ovaltine myself), Oatmeal, Red Raspberry leaf tea, and Alfalfa. You can change the composition of the fats in your milk by eating good healthy fats that will help your milk - coconut, eggs, cod liver oil, olive oil....

1 cup of hot tea in the morning, and alot of water thru the day. You could also try pumping after he's done nursing. You likely won't get anything right away, but you should notice an increase in the next couple days.

the more you expell milk the more you will make. If hes not hungry just pump and store the milk. Its all supply and demand. The mor e you demand the more youll make

    eat and drink properly

    nurse on demand

    comfort nurse

    co-sleep

look into herbal galactogogues.....like fenugreek, mothers milk tea

but most important is to nurse on demand and NOT to offer supplements of formula

If you need to increase your milk production, run hot water over your breasts as you shower. Also, massage them gently and try to breastfeed more often, with shorter feeding times. Good luck.

try drinking a lot of liquids during the day

drink a lot of herbal teas with a little of bit of milk

    pump more often

    try taking oatmeal

Source(s): I been breasdfeeding for the past 3 months
  • after nursing, pump and dump, or just store it away, it will make increase your milk supply.
