What modifications can I make to improve fuel economy?
I own a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Spyder. I know that Intakes, exhaust and such give better performance, but which mods will actually increase fuel economy? With gas prices so high, ANY improvement would help (especially since I tend to put a LOT of miles on my car commuting - a full 16-gallon tank lasts me only 2-3 days on average).
Also, please no "Get a different Car" responses. I can't afford payments right now, but I could afford a one-time cost of modifying.

Decent tyres...They acctually reduce the ammount fuel used...and inflate then at the correct pressure to.
Take out weight, less weight to pull more economical...do you know how much fuel it takes to lugged a boot in UK (trunk in USA) about.
Think about reducing drag, ask yourself how can i easily make it more streamlined...increasing aero performance has the same effect on fuel...close the window whilst you drive, trust me you will get a few extra miles out your tank
Run your car in highest gear...and try not to rev TOO much, doing this helps your concentration and conserves fuel...
None of these cost any money (well buying buying the fuel does!)
I know this because fuel here in the UK has skyrocketed over night...Our Prime Minister is Gay! I have to drive my BMW like this, and it makes a HELL of a difference

mods like that actually help your gas mileage cause what they do is make the car more efficient. it sucks air faster without haveing to work for it as much. computer programers alter the timing and other components and can go either way. the thing is to get the engine to burn the gas faster and more efficiently. so dont think that all the mods that you put on your car make it eat gas faster
