Are they EVER gonna release a new Playstation 3 besides the 40gb in PAL regions like New Zealand?

Yes they will. The current 40GB SKU(StockKeeping Unit) uses a 65nm Cell processor and there are plans to release a 45nm version. The 60GB version has a older 90nm cell chip. The newer unit will run cooler and use less power. Rumour is the PS3 physical size might shrink due less cooling being needed.

Here is what I expect in future SKUs.

No PS2 backwards compatibility in future PS3s (too expensive to include EE and GS chips and the PS3 does not have the ability to emulate the GS chip. I believe the 60GB NZ version did emulate the EE)

Larger hard drives. Maybe 80GB? could be 160GB, only Sony would know. PlayTV will be a valid reason to offer a larger HDD. You can upgrade the HDD yourself as there are directions in the PS3 manual.

A Dualshock 3 included as standard. Soon to be released in NZ for $109, but can be found cheaper on trademe.
